Mwinike Grace is 8 years old and has been home for one year from the time he was sent away from school due to lack of fees and failure to bring required scholastic materials. Grace lost his parents at a tender age of one and stays with his ill-health grandmother who is 65-years old.
His only uncle Sam a 40-year-old has been bed ridden for close to six months due to a chronic illness. He had just started his academic journey in primary one, from a nearby school within his village Kiwanyi in Namutunba District when it suddenly ended due to lack of fees. On the right is his cousin Rhoda, she lost both parents to HIV/AIDS and just like Grace, her academic journey is at stake. She was in primary two in the same school, however unlike like her cousin brother she has been home for two years due to lack of fees. Rhoda is 10 years old.
During our visit she told the Vision Save for Vulnerable Children and Women community worker that, “I admire my fellow children who go to school every day, the day I was chased from school, I felt bad because I was going to miss my friends and science teacher.”
