WHAT WE DO

VSVCW’s ACTIVITIES

01.

Mapping of vulnerable children and youth for sponsorship through community leadership structures. This is a participatory activity where community leaders such as local leaders and religious leaders are involved in the identification and selection process. Sponsorship is done for children in primary school, secondary school, university and tertiary institutions for vocational training for youths

Conducting household needs assessment to inform livelihoods interventions at household level. This is conducted after a vulnerable child has been identified, selected and enrolled for the sponsorship program. After the needs assessment, financial literacy is conducted prior to provision of start-up capital. Business survival and progress monitoring is conducted quarterly for up to 1.5 years.

Development of training manuals for the caregivers and other materials on child protection and financial literacy for the households enrolled and caregivers within the schools and home. This is done in close collaboration with the ministry of Gender.

Legal trainings are being facilitated to support the local leadership in charge of children for response and monitoring of child abuse cases within the community.

Weekly monitoring visits are conducted by staff and quarterly joint monitoring visits are conducted with the local leadership to the schools where the children have been enrolled.  During the joint monitoring, career guidance and support is provided to the children and youth. Furthermore, counselling services are provided to different affectted families during the monitoring visits.

To increase awareness of the selected families, awareness rising sessions and dialogue meetings are conducted respectively in the local languages. The participatory approach is utilized and user-friendly methods of dissemination are used.

Capacity building for both caregivers in school, parents and local leaders is conducted, trainings on child protection, administering psychosocial support to affected children is incorporated in all engagements conducted by Vision Save for Vulnerable Children and Women. Prior to any training, pre-tests and post-tests are conducted to measure knowledge levels

VSVCW supports school curriculum activities through providing of sportswear and refreshments during the sports activities, music dance and drama. This is geared towards talent identification and promotion of such talents whenever funds allows.

09.

Supporting youth with vocational skills training and equipping them with start-up capital. This intervention mainly targets GBV survivors, youth that have dropped out of schools due to pregnancy among other concerns.

10.

VSVCW works with government health units to increase access to nutrition and maternal health to the vulnerable women within the community. This targets lactating and pregnant women struggling to have access to these services

 How the VSVCW sponsorship framework works

Vision Save for Vulnerable Children Women works with community leaders and other representatives to identify and priorities the needs in their area, such as education. Once this stage is complete. VSVCW volunteers members work together to select the most vulnerable children based on transparent local criteria. A detailed checklist is used to comprehensively qualify a child as vulnerable and alible for support.

Parents and caregivers’ capacity in child sponsorship is build as well as expectation prior to consenting to be part of the programme. VSVCW attaches you with a child who is part of the sponsorship programme. As that child’s only sponsor, you have the opportunity to build a relationship with them and track their progress and the difference your support is making over time. Your monthly donations become part of a powerful collective fund capable of permanently transforming your sponsored child’s community into a place that offers them the future they deserve.
